Domaine de la Vieille Julienne is a respected estate located in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the southern Rhône Valley. The domaine has a history dating back to the 17th century and is currently run by Jean-Paul Daumen, who has brought international recognition to the estate through his terroir-focused and biodynamic philosophy.
The vineyards are situated on elevated sites in the northern part of the appellation and are characterised by soils composed of galets roulés, sand and clay. These poor soils result in low yields and highly concentrated fruit. Grenache forms the backbone of most wines, supported by varieties such as Mourvèdre and Syrah.
Wines from Vieille Julienne are known for their depth, elegance and structure. They often reveal aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry and plum, accompanied by notes of garrigue herbs, black pepper and subtle mineral undertones.
With careful vineyard management and minimal intervention in the cellar, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne is widely regarded as one of the most respected producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
