Domaine La Barroche is a respected family estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, located in the southern Rhône Valley. The domaine has been in the Barrot family for several generations and today is led by Julien Barrot, who has brought renewed attention to the estate through a careful balance of tradition and modern precision. Working with old vines and diverse vineyard parcels across the appellation, La Barroche has become known for wines that capture both the power and the elegance of classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
The vineyards include a high proportion of old Grenache vines, some of which are more than a century old, planted on the region’s characteristic soils of galets roulés, sand and clay. Grenache forms the backbone of the wines, supported by traditional Rhône varieties such as Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. The reds typically display aromas of ripe blackberry, cherry and plum, layered with notes of dried herbs, licorice and warm spice that reflect the Mediterranean character of the region. Despite their depth and richness, the wines often show a refined structure and freshness that allows them to age gracefully.
Domaine La Barroche produces several cuvées that highlight different vineyard expressions within Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes gentle extraction, careful oak use and a focus on preserving the character of each vintage. As a result, the wines combine concentration with precision, offering a modern yet authentic interpretation of one of the Rhône Valley’s most celebrated appellations.
