Havens Wine Cellars is a historic Napa Valley producer founded in 1984 by Michael Havens. At a time when Napa was dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, Havens distinguished itself by focusing on Rhône grape varieties, helping to introduce grapes such as Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre to a broader Californian audience.
The wines were often sourced from carefully selected vineyards across Napa Valley as well as neighboring regions such as Carneros and Mendocino. The house style combines ripe Californian fruit with structure and spice reminiscent of the Rhône Valley.
Red wines frequently display aromas of blackberry, plum, cracked pepper and dried herbs, sometimes accompanied by subtle smoky notes. In addition to Rhône varieties, the winery also produced elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Havens Wine Cellars built a reputation for wines that emphasize balance, drinkability and character rather than sheer power. Though production remained relatively small, the wines became well regarded among enthusiasts of expressive California wines.
