Opus One is one of the most iconic wineries in Napa Valley, California. The estate was created through a historic partnership between two legendary figures of the wine world: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Robert Mondavi, the pioneer of modern Napa Valley winemaking. Their shared vision was to produce a wine that combined the elegance of Bordeaux with the richness and structure of Napa Valley fruit.
The vineyards of Opus One are located in the prestigious Oakville AVA, one of the most sought-after appellations in Napa Valley. The wine is crafted from classic Bordeaux grape varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, with Cabernet Sauvignon typically forming the backbone of the blend.
Opus One wines are known for their balance, depth and refinement. Aromas of cassis, black cherry and plum are often complemented by notes of graphite, cedar, cocoa and subtle spice derived from ageing in French oak barrels. The palate is structured yet polished, with silky tannins and a long, layered finish.
Since the inaugural vintage in 1979, Opus One has become one of California’s most prestigious wines and a global symbol of collaboration between Old World tradition and New World innovation.
