Weingut Johann Schmelz is a family-run estate located in the Wachau, one of Austria’s most renowned wine regions along the Danube River. The winery is known for producing precise and terroir-driven wines that reflect the steep terraced vineyards of the region.
The vineyards are primarily planted with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, grown on rocky soils that contribute to the wines’ distinctive minerality and freshness. The Wachau’s unique microclimate, with warm days and cool nights, allows for slow ripening and excellent aromatic development.
Schmelz wines are characterized by their purity and elegance. Grüner Veltliner shows notes of green apple, citrus and white pepper, while Riesling offers stone fruit, floral aromas and vibrant acidity. The wines are structured, expressive and particularly well suited for food pairing.
