Weingut Bischel is a dynamic and highly regarded winery based in Appenheim in the northern part of Rheinhessen. Run by brothers Christian and Matthias Bischel, the estate has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most exciting producers in the region. Their philosophy centres on expressing the character of Rheinhessen’s limestone-rich soils through precise, terroir-driven wines that combine clarity, freshness and structure.
The vineyards of Weingut Bischel are located on the rolling hills of the Bingen area, where cool winds and limestone-based soils create ideal conditions for aromatic and structured wines. Riesling is the flagship variety of the estate, often showing vibrant citrus, green apple and subtle herbal notes supported by a firm mineral backbone. Alongside Riesling, the winery also produces impressive wines from Burgundian varieties such as Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) and Chardonnay, which display both elegance and a refined texture.
In the cellar the Bischel brothers favour a restrained approach, allowing the fruit and the vineyard to take centre stage. Fermentation often takes place in large neutral casks or stainless steel to preserve purity and precision. The resulting wines reflect the modern face of Rheinhessen: focused, energetic and increasingly sought after by sommeliers and collectors looking for Germany’s new generation of terroir-driven producers.
