Calera Wine Company is a renowned winery located in California, within the Mount Harlan appellation of San Benito County. The estate was founded in 1975 by visionary winemaker Josh Jensen, who was inspired by the great Pinot Noir wines of Burgundy.
Jensen selected Mount Harlan for its rare limestone soils, which resemble those of Burgundy and are particularly suited to growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards are situated at high elevations where cooler conditions contribute to refined and structured wines.
Calera is internationally recognized for its terroir-driven Pinot Noir wines from single vineyards such as Jensen Vineyard, Reed Vineyard and Mills Vineyard. These wines often display aromas of red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, accompanied by notes of spice, floral tones and minerality.
Through its commitment to terroir and traditional winemaking, Calera has played an important role in establishing high-quality Pinot Noir production in California.
