Clos Saint Jean is a respected family estate located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhône Valley. The winery’s history dates back to the early 20th century and today it is run by brothers Vincent and Pascal Maurel. Over the past decades, Clos Saint Jean has established itself as one of the leading producers in the appellation.
The vineyards are planted on the classic soils of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, including large galets roulés, sand and clay. These warm, stony terroirs are ideal for varieties such as Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The wines are known for their depth and richness, showing aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry and plum, complemented by notes of garrigue herbs, pepper, cocoa and licorice.
Clos Saint Jean combines traditional Rhône winemaking with modern precision in the cellar. Low yields, careful grape selection and refined ageing in oak barrels produce wines with power, elegance and excellent ageing potential. The estate’s different cuvées are regularly among the most highly regarded wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
