Domaine Giraud is a highly respected estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, located in the southern Rhône Valley and run by the Giraud family for generations. The modern era of the domaine has been shaped by siblings Marie and François Giraud, who have elevated the estate’s reputation through meticulous vineyard work and a strong commitment to expressing the character of the appellation’s historic terroirs.
The vineyards are spread across several of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s classic soil types, including sandy parcels and the famous galets roulés stones that cover much of the plateau. Grenache dominates the blends, often supported by Syrah and Mourvèdre, with many of the vines reaching impressive ages that contribute depth and concentration. The red wines typically show aromas of ripe raspberry, blackberry and plum, layered with notes of garrigue herbs, pepper, licorice and warm spice. Despite their richness, the wines maintain freshness and balance, allowing them to develop beautifully with time.
Domaine Giraud is also known for its careful approach to viticulture, including organic farming practices and low yields that emphasize quality over quantity. In the cellar the philosophy remains restrained, allowing the fruit and the vineyard character to take centre stage. The resulting wines are powerful yet refined expressions of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, combining the warmth of the southern Rhône with a clear sense of structure and elegance.
