Kumeu River is a highly respected family winery from New Zealand, located in the Auckland region near the village of Kumeu. The estate was founded by the Brajkovich family, Croatian immigrants who began winemaking in the 1940s. Today the winery is run by the third generation of the family.
While Kumeu River produces several grape varieties, the estate is particularly famous for its outstanding Chardonnay. The vineyards are planted on clay-rich soils that provide excellent conditions for producing structured and expressive wines.
Kumeu River Chardonnays are often compared to top white wines from Burgundy. They typically show aromas of citrus, peach and apple, supported by subtle notes of toasted nuts and brioche from careful oak ageing.
Thanks to their balance, precision and impressive ageing potential, Kumeu River wines are widely regarded as some of the finest Chardonnays produced in New Zealand.
