The Ahrens Family’s Kasteel-Neef 2020, from South Africa’s Swartland, is a Syrah-driven blend from granite soils. Crafted by Donsie Ahrens, it reflects the 2020 vintage’s balance. Fermented in open tanks and aged 12 months in old oak, it pours deep ruby with blackberry, pepper, and spice aromas, plus earth and minerality. Full-bodied, it offers firm tannins, fresh acidity (5.6 g/L), and rich fruit with a smoky finish. Sustainable practices ensure quality. Ideal for steak or game, it evolves through 2030. A bold Swartland red.
