Clos du Mont-Olivet is a historic family estate located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhône Valley. The domaine has been in the Sabon family for several generations and today continues to be run by members of the family who have preserved a deeply traditional approach to viticulture and winemaking. With vineyards spread across many of the appellation’s diverse terroirs, Clos du Mont-Olivet has built a reputation for wines that combine authenticity, balance and long ageing potential.
The estate’s vineyards include parcels planted on classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape soils such as galets roulés, clay and sandy terraces. Grenache forms the backbone of the red wines, often supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre and other permitted Rhône varieties. The wines typically show aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry and plum, accompanied by notes of garrigue herbs, pepper and licorice. While generous and richly textured, the wines maintain freshness and structure, allowing them to develop complexity over time.
Clos du Mont-Olivet produces several cuvées that highlight the character of different vineyard sites, but the overall philosophy remains rooted in tradition. Gentle extraction, restrained oak use and a respect for the natural balance of the fruit ensure that the wines express the true identity of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The result is a classic style of southern Rhône wine—deep, expressive and capable of ageing gracefully for many years.
