My Sommelier: A Cellar That Answers Back
There is a particular kind of relief that comes from asking a good wine merchant a simple question and receiving, in return, not a lecture but a bottle. Not three hundred options to sort through, not a glossary of terms to look up first — just a considered answer, from someone who has tasted widely enough to know what actually belongs in your glass tonight.
It is, in many ways, the oldest form of service in our trade: the trusted voice behind the counter, the one who remembers what you liked last time and asks, gently, what the occasion is before reaching for a bottle. We wanted that same feeling waiting for you the moment you arrive on our website — not after a search, not buried in a filter menu, but simply there, ready to be asked.
So we built it. We call it My Sommelier, and as far as we know, nothing quite like it exists elsewhere in online wine retail: an advisor living quietly in the corner of every page, ready the instant you have a question and a glass in mind.
An honest advisor, not a guessing machine
What makes My Sommelier worth your trust is not that it is clever — plenty of things online claim that — but that it is honest in a very specific way. It has been given access to nothing but our own cellar. It cannot recommend a bottle we do not actually stock, cannot invent a vintage to sound impressive, and cannot suggest something quietly out of stock. Every answer arrives as a real bottle from our own shelves, with its true price and a photograph you can click straight through to the product itself.
Here is exactly what that looks like, taken from a real conversation:

A real conversation, in Dutch, answered with a real bottle from our own cellar.
This, we think, is what separates a useful tool from a novelty. It would have been easy to build something that simply talks about wine in general terms. It was considerably harder — and considerably more valuable to you — to build one that only ever speaks about wine it can actually put in your hands.
The kinds of questions it was built for
Consider the dinner that has crept up faster than expected, with a guest list including someone whose opinion of wine matters rather more than it should. My Sommelier asks nothing of you but the essentials — the dish, the budget, the mood — and answers with a bottle chosen specifically for that evening, along with a short, honest reason why it belongs there.

Not every question needs to arrive so composed, either. We have already seen guests ask, with disarming honesty, for help because they "don't really know wine but need to bring something tonight." My Sommelier answers exactly as a good merchant would: warmly, without a trace of condescension, and with a bottle that will do the talking for them. There is something rather charming about a tool built from thousands of wines that never once makes you feel you should have known better before asking.
Consider, too, the gift that calls for a touch more occasion — something that ought to look considered, without stretching the budget further than it needs to.

And when the ask is simple and sure of itself — a good steak, a bold red, no further notes needed — My Sommelier skips the small talk entirely.

Five languages, one voice
LuxuriousDrinks.com has always served clients well beyond a single market, and My Sommelier was built with that firmly in mind. Ask your question in Dutch, German, English, French, or Spanish, and it will answer you in kind — as the first example above shows. Write to it in any other language and it will still do its best to help, answering in English rather than guessing badly at a language it does not yet speak.
Where to find it
Look for the small red button resting in the corner of the page, on every part of the site. A click opens the conversation; a question, however specific or however uncertain, is all it needs to begin. What comes back will not be a suggestion pulled from thin air, but a real bottle, from our own cellar, chosen because it genuinely fits what you asked.
We built My Sommelier because we believe good advice should be as easy to reach as the wine itself. We hope you will put it to the test — and that, whatever the question, you will enjoy the asking as much as the answer.
Santé,
The Luxurious Drinks Team
