In 1803 Joseph James Forrester commits itself to the house Offley. Forrester was a famous wine expert who developed a method for controlling a disastrous grape disease.
Two hundred years later Offley Forrester one of the largest and most respected Portwine houses in the world.Portwine Wines come in a special way to stand. The grapes are crushed and the seeds and skins (the most) in large barrels stored for color and flavor. There is a fermentation process whereby sugar is converted into alcohol. At a certain moment wine alcohol is added so that the fermentation process is stopped. Then the Portwine stored in oak barrels for further maturation and its unique color.
The difference between a Ruby and Tawny is achieved by using different oak barrels a Ruby in a large barrel mounted making this little contact with the wood and thus retains its fruity flavor. A contrast Tawny is aged in small oak barrels and therefore has much contact with the wood thus arises the famous spicy flavor.Offley Ruby comes into its own when you drink it at room temperature (+ - 18 degrees Celsius).
